The Civil Service Commission is a statutory body which exists to provide assurance that Civil Service recruitment is made on merit on the basis of fair and open to all competition; to act as an effective appeal body, and build awareness of, the Civil Service Code; and to provide advice on applications from senior civil servants and special advisers under the Business Appointment Rules (BARs).
The Commission strongly believes that the country is best served by a Civil Service which recruits and develops the best and most diverse talent, free of personal and political patronage, and remains true to its core values of Impartiality, Objectivity, Integrity and Honesty in the Civil Service Code.

The Court is the University’s governing body and is the legal persona of the University.
By the Universities (Scotland) Act 1889, the University Court is a body corporate, with perpetual succession and a common seal; and all the property belonging to the University at the passing of the Act was vested in the Court.
The present powers of the Court are defined in the Universities (Scotland) Act 1966, and include among others:
- the administration and management of the whole revenue and property of the University;
- the regulation of the salaries of all members of staff; and
- the establishment of Committees of its own members or others and the determination of the membership and the quorum of such committees.
The 1966 Act stipulates the procedures by which Court may exercise its powers.
These are:
- by Ordinance, which requires consultation with the General Council, the Senatus Academicus and others having an interest and then Privy Council approval;
- by Resolution, which similarly requires consultation with the General Council, Senatus Academicus and others having an interest but not approval by Privy Council;
- or by simple decision without the need for formal consultation.

Colleges Scotland is the collective voice for the college sector, and as the membership body, represents the 24 colleges in Scotland, which deliver both further education and around 20% of the provision of all higher education in Scotland. The 24 colleges operate in 13 regions across Scotland, allowing them to plan nationally and regionally, as well as deliver locally.
Colleges Scotland’s primary role is to support colleges and the regional strategic body in achieving their aims and objectives, and to cultivate the strength of the college sector in Scotland. This is achieved through advocating and campaigning on behalf of the college sector, co-ordinating sector-wide engagement on major issues, policy development, and maintaining strong and proactive relationships with government, sector agencies and industry bodies. Colleges Scotland is driving new business development opportunities to increase benefits to its members.

The Hepworth Wakefield

The Hepworth Wakefield has welcomed over 3 million visitors since opening in May 2011 and is now established as one of the most successful public art galleries in the UK, attracting critical acclaim and audiences from around the world.
We present an ambitious programme of major exhibitions of the best international modern and contemporary art, alongside innovative displays drawn from Wakefield’s growing art collection. Central to our work is our learning programme that engages schools, families, adults and local community groups through inspiring creative learning opportunities. In 2019, we opened The Hepworth Wakefield Garden, designed by Tom Stuart-Smith, to complement our David Chipperfield-designed gallery and provide an inspiring public garden, free for all to enjoy. We have recently been joined by neighbours Tileyard North, who have developed the 19th century mill complex opposite the gallery into a vibrant hub for the creative industries. We are now embarking upon two capital projects to complete our wider waterfront site, including returning our much-loved playground and creating a workshop and yard space for our Gardener and her team of volunteers.
