Supporting people facing financial hardship has been a priority for Independent Age since our foundation more than 160 years ago.

The number of people facing financial hardship is growing – more than two million older people live in poverty in the UK, and at least one million more live with precarious finances. Living in financial hardship affects older people's health, intensifies loneliness and reduces quality of life – so we can and must work to prevent and alleviate it.

Our history and financial position mean we are uniquely placed to address this challenge and to become the only national charity dedicated to supporting people facing financial hardship in later life.

In der Grundüberzeugung, dass das Leben mit Parkinson durch eigenes Verhalten positiv gestaltet werden kann, fördern wir als erste private Stiftung in Deutschland nicht-medikamentöse Behandlungstherapien.

Alle zwei Jahre vergeben wir den mit 10.000 € dotierten Stiftungspreis. Darüber hinaus unterstützen wir wissenschaftliche Studien und fördern Selbsthilfeprojekte. Für unsere Arbeit werben wir Spenden ein. Vorstand und Kuratorium sind ehrenamtlich tätig und zum Teil selbst an Parkinson erkrankt.

SPUD was incorporated as a Charity (CIO) in 2015 and has grown to provide a vibrant and varied programme of creative and community activities, events and exhibitions throughout the year. We work across a wide range of projects and partnerships. This includes providing workspaces and studios for an active community of artists and small businesses with 9 micro businesses on site. In 2025 we start a new creative and organisation development project ‘Sustainable Focus- Ambitious Actions’.
