FAQs

What is Designation.One?

Designation. One is a platform connecting organisations, with a focus on charities and foundations embracing inclusivity with talent from underrepresented groups wanting to serve on the board of directors/trustees, or governors.

How does it work?

Charities, non-profits, and foundations register on the platform and can post their board vacancies with a description of the expertise sought in board members. As an individual you can register and post your profile, expertise, and resumes and search the dashboard for open board vacancies.

Does Designation.one offer training?

Yes. We have developed a “Ready to Serve Board Training Program”– a leadership bootcamp that provides a cost effective way for talent development and connects companies to purpose driven community impact. The training can be conducted virtual or in-person and runs from half to full day, depending on the group size.

We offer a trove of information and self-directed learning to prepare individuals for a board position in the resourced section. As part of the paid membership, we offer online and in-person pieces of training, networking opportunities, and coaching.

How do I hear about open board vacancies?

Once you register with us, you will receive regular notifications about open board positions directly into your inbox. You can also research our dashboard for vacancies.

What are the benefits in becoming a member?

Membership in Designation.one gives you access to a network of experienced and new board members in your field and location. In addition, there is a curated resource section and access to international leadership development opportunities.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my membership?

You can upgrade or downgrade your membership at any time. However, when downgrading your membership you will loose your benefits such as board readiness assessment and individual coaching.

I want to cancel my membership. What do I need to do?

If you wish to cancel your renewal at any time, you can do so during your Membership term and up to 30 days before your renewal date. Please see our Terms & Conditions for more information.

How does a mentoring session work? What does it involve?

During the 45-minute mentoring session we can cover the following aspects as you wish: Career coaching, networking and building power networks, personal branding for board assessment, board interview preparation.

We are an organization wanting to commit to a more inclusive board. How can Designation.one help us?

We provide educational resources and specific training on board diversity. The vast network and connections to diverse leadership talent across sectors, both in the US and Europe, is one of our strengths. Once we have assessed the skills and diversity gap on your board, we can assist in the search for board talent for you.

Do you offer specific board placements?

Yes. We are highly adept at assisting boards to find new board members and become more diverse and inclusive or continue to improve their board composition. This includes searches for board chairs, individual members and their selection (e.g. non-executive director, commissioner, trustee, president) as well as multiple or entire board recruitments for start-ups or transformation. Our team is continuously engaged in further learning and exchanges and are sought after speakers and trusted advisors from the grass-roots level to the halls of power.

Why are you called Designation.one?

“the act of choosing someone or something for a special job” (Cambridge Dictionary). We believe in boards reflecting the societal make-up they operate in and for everyone interested to be able to have at least one designation to a board.
